14th Annual General Meeting cum
Higher Education Innovation and Development Forum

Hosted by the Wuhan University of Technology, the 14th Annual General Meeting cum Higher Education Innovation and Development Forum were held in Wuhan on 30 Oct. Around 60 delegates from the ISTA member institutes, ATN member institutes, Ministry of Education and Hubei Government attended the events.

Upcoming major activities and the future directions of ISTA were being discussed in the AGM. These include:

- ATN-ISTA Nanonetwork

- Higher Education Leadership Development Programme

- 37th International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products, Geneva, Switzerland

- China International Industry Fair 2009, Shanghai

- PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge - A Global Competition

- Third Biennial Meeting, China-Europa Forum

- Direction and Development of ISTA

The AGM had achieved fruitful discussions and had received numerous precious suggestions from the participants, regarding the activities planned for the coming year and the future direction of ISTA. It was generally accepted that ISTA, being a network facilitating comprehensive collaboration among members, should carry on its mission to enhance the overall capacity and internationalization of the members. Furthermore, it acts as the pivotal role to promote collaborations among the high education institutions in the Greater China region.

In the Higher Education Innovation and Development Forum, various speakers delivered presentations and shared their experience and success stories in university-industrial technology transfer strategies and multi-institutional research collaborations. Representatives from the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, and Hong Kong Automotive Parts and Accessory Systems R&D Centre were invited to introduce the Innovation and Technology Fund scheme. ISTA member universities were encouraged to tap on this funding and collaborate with the universities, R&D centres and enterprises in Hong Kong for win-win development of innovative technologies.

Finally, the delegation visited the National Key Industrial Base of Fibre Optics Sensing Technology, Wuhan University of Technology, and shared the experience in commercializing advanced technology products.
