Hosted by the Northwestern Polytechnical University, the 13th Annual General Meeting cum Aeronautics and Astronautics Technology Forum were held in Xi'an on 30 Oct - 1 Nov 2008. Around 80 delegates from the ISTA member institutes, ATN member institutes, Israel universities, Ministry of Education, Shaanxi and Xi'an Government attended the events.

In the AGM, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was accepted as a full member of ISTA. Prof. Zu-wen Wang, the former Vice President of Harbin Institute of Technology and present President of Dalian Maritime University, was accepted as an ISTA Individual Member. Upcoming major activities of ISTA were being discussed. These included:
- Organizing Higher Education Management Leadership Training Program
- Co-organizing PolyU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Student Challenge - A Global Competition
- Joint establishment of academic-industrial research network with ATN
In the Aeronautics and Astronautics Technology Forum, various speakers delivered presentations on the education, technology development and perspectives of the aeronautics and astronautics industries from the standpoints of academia, government and enterprises.


Apart from these, the delegation visited the Xi'an
Aircraft Industry (Group) Co. Ltd. and the Xi'an Aero-Engine
(Group) Ltd. for more in-depth understanding of the
local aeronautics industry. They exchanged views with
their senior management on related technology development.
They also had the precious opportunity to visit the
impressive manufacturing and assembly facilities of
engine, turbine and body of aircrafts.
Finally, the delegation visited the Northwest Industrial
Technology Research Institute and discussed with their
executives on the experience in academic-industrial
collaboration and knowledge transfer.
Visit to the Xi'an Aero-Engine (Group) Ltd., formerly
the HongQi Machine Factory, a state-owned enterprise
founded in the 1950s.
